Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Where to begin? On Wednesday night I decided to trek out to the city, even though there was a massive blizzard and the train tracks looked like this:

It was New York Fashion Week Eve! I couldn’t miss my first ever fashion week events. I just feel massively blessed to be invited anywhere at all. Thanks internship! So, I had a few presentations to go to, but I decided to stop by Showroom Seven’s sample sale first. I was wandering around and trying on stuff when all of a sudden, in walked Lucy Liu! I thought about asking for a picture, but I figured I’d leave her in peace. We did smile and nod at each other in greeting though. So I can now say that I once ran into Lucy Liu and she actually acknowledged my presence.
I ended the night at the GenArt presentation and party, where stuff like this greeted me.

Look, it’s Kenley and Stella from Project Runway season 5! They were there because the winners of the GenArt competition were none other than fellow season 5 contestants Wesley Nault and Daniel Feld, who together form the design team Wesfeld.

They are absolutely adorable. There they are flanking Molly Sims. Their collection was incredible. Seriously, seriously stunning.

The collection definitely felt romantic and feminine, but there was a certain subtlety to it that kept it from being too pretty-pretty. Like the spiked bolero, which doesn’t sounds like it should fit in with the rest of the collection in theory, but visually it does somehow. The shoes also need to be seen to be believed. The red dress above was a break away from the gentler, nude palette. I loved how the detailing managed to be both soft and structured.

Here are the shoes. Some were spiky and some had flower-like things on them. I couldn’t get great pics, but was promised by a PR person that they would be up on the Facebook fan page soon. The platform/heels were, from what I could tell, all carved out of wood. Very cool looking. I wonder what they’re like to walk in.

Very very sweet. The juxtaposition between the super structured top and seaming with the delicate, sheer draping is perfection. Though I don’t know how this would look for someone with more boob-age.

Their interpretation of a mermaid dress. Exquisite. I regret not getting a good picture of the detailing behind her right arm. It was a nice, unexpected surprise. Also, I love that the model is staring straight into my camera. Testament to the fact that I was directly in front of the collection. No idea how I managed to get so close.

This makes me think of insect shell and fish scales. It’s so glam and yet strangely tough looking. I am fascinated by this dress. Looking at it is almost……an intellectual experience. I want to do a deep reading of it.

This dress is the opposite. It makes me squeal in girlish glee.

It’s so gloriously full! Such delightful ruffles! Love the solid/sheer mix. Pink! Slightly iridescent! So pretty! Honestly, this was my dream dress when I was a kid.
The collection was very impressive. It was amazing to get to see it all up close.

Oh and I ran into lots of awesome people. Like Natasha from season 8 of America’s Next Top Model. She was such a sweetheart. Also saw Alex and Simon from Real Housewives of New York. And I met the Glamourai and her friend Krystal of What is Reality Anyway, who were both lovely and gorgeous!
